The best type of concrete epoxy coating for interior floors and walls is a high build epoxy.
Something that is tough and durable, but gives you lots of color options, decorative options for that interior space… something like the Labpox 30.
An epoxy coating is a two-part coating that’s either roller or squeegee applied onto the floor or the wall, and it provides a protective layer to that surface.
It adds color and reflectivity to an interior floor or wall space.
Labpox 30 is a two-part epoxy coating that is mixed together and either roller or squeegee applied out onto the floor.
The Labpox 30 epoxy coating comes in a wide range of standard colors. Plus, we have many other color options by adding color flakes, color packs, quartz or metallic pigments to provide lots of decorative options to the homeowner or to the architect.
It’s very chemical-resistant, and very easy to use. It very wear-resistant. It also brings lots of color and reflectivity into an interior floor or wall space.
It’s a nice, spreadable product that can be applied in a range of thicknesses. It’s an excellent choice for interior floor and wall applications.
Typical epoxy color coats are two-part products that you mix together. Afterward, you spread the product out with a squeegee and a roller, or you can you back row the product. It can be applied to a floor or wall to give it a protection, and provide a range of color options.
The Labpox 30 has a lot of advantages over epoxy coatings you’ll find in retail or big box stores.
It is a high build, high solids epoxy coating. There’s no odor or solvents in the product, so you’re not dealing with lots of odor and hazmat issues.
It spreads very easily. The product uses leveling agents or wetting agents that allow you to push out the product over large areas. If you’re working with thousands of square feet, that makes a big difference in your production and overall ease of use.
The product employs curing agents that are very chemically-resistant. They are called a cyclo-aliphatic curing agents, and they are much more chemical-resistant than what you’ll find in a standard, store-bought epoxy product.
The product itself has good color retention and good color reflectivity. You can purchase the product with the color already in it, or you can add lots of color options by using metallic or broadcasting in flakes or color quartz.
In the end, Labpox 30 provides a very tough coating that’s easy to apply. It’s non-hazardous and offers great chemical-resistance with a lot of color options for interior floor and wall applications.
The concrete needs to be in good condition before you coat it with Labpox 30. Make sure that you’re bonding to a good sound surface.
If there are cracks, spalls or divets in the floor, they should be filled first. Once these items have been patched and ground flush, then apply the Labpox 30.
It makes a big difference in terms of the overall appearance and performance of the epoxy coating.
We highly recommend that you patch any cracks or holes in the concrete before you coat it with Labpox 30 – or ANY epoxy product for that matter.
Again, it makes a big difference in terms of the appearance and performance of the epoxy coating.
You can patch or fill cracks with CoverTec’s crack filler product. It’s a high build epoxy filler that can be poured into those areas, and spread out. You can also mix sand into it and make a patching material.
You can also use some cementitious material, and grind it in flush before you a coat over with the Labpox 30 epoxy.
If you have moisture in your concrete, it can cause the epoxy to appear hazy or milky.
It can lead to “fish-eyeing” and blistering. More specifically, it can cause the epoxy to blister and peel off the surface. So, it’s very important to make sure that you don’t have a lot of moisture in the concrete.
If there’s an existing sealer on the concrete, it can negatively affect the adhesion or the bond of Chem 100 to the surface. So, it’s important to remove that bond breaker – that barrier – to adhesion before you apply the epoxy coat.
A simple test to check if there’s a existing sealer on the floor is to use what we call “a Water Test.”
Here, you simply sprinkle water on the floor, and you check to see how long it takes to soak into the concrete. If it’s soaks in within five minutes, then it’s ok to begin applying the epoxy coating.
If the water beads up and takes a long time to soak in – or doesn’t soak in at all – you need to remove that existing coating or sealer.
You can do that by:
– Sanding it off
– Grinding it off, or
– Etching it off the surface.
Labpox 30 comes in a water clear version, with lots of options to add color. We have metallic colors. We also have solid colors.
These can be mixed in at the time of application to provide you attractive, nicely reflective color.
You can also broadcast in color flakes, vinyl chips, blends of different colored vinyl, or color quartz.
There are lots of options to add color to the Labpox 30 clear sealer.
You can apply Labpox 30 over an existing coating, paint or epoxy paint. Just make sure that the original paint is well-bonded to surface.
If it’s lifting and peeling, and you apply the Labpox 30 to that, then the Labpox 30 will also lift and peel.
Your overall success depends on how well that existing paint is bonded to the existing surface.
We strongly recommend:
1 – Sand the surface and the existing paint
2 – Clean off the dust
3 – Wipe the surface and any existing coating off with a solvent (Xylene or acetone)
After doing these things to prepare the surface thoroughly, then you can coat with Labpox 30.
The ideal temperature ranges for the Labpox 30 is around 65 degrees Fahrenheit, up to about 90 degrees Fahrenheit. In this temp. range, you get a nice, easy application of the product and you have plenty of working time.
You can apply it in temperature as low as 55 degrees Fahrenheit, but the epoxy itself will be much thicker, and it will take much longer to dry. This is why we recommend applying the product between 65 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
The POT life for an epoxy coating is the maximum amount of time you have to work with the product once it’s been mixed.
Epoxies are typically two-part products. You mix them together, and then you have a window of working time – or POT life – to use the product. It’s important to stay within that working time so that you can spread the product out easily and evenly.
Once you apply the epoxy past the POT life of the product, then the product becomes very thick. It doesn’t bond as well to the surface, and the physical properties are compromised.
As a result, it’s very important that you stay within the POT life – or working time – of the epoxy coating.
Chem 100 takes about 8 to 12 hours to dry.
As long as you re-coat it within the first 24 hours of the first application, you can do it without having to do any more surface prep (as long as the surface is clean.)
Once you’re outside that 24 hour re-coat window, then you need to:
1 – Sand the surface
2 – Clean up the dust
3 – Wipe off the surface with the Acetone or Xylene.
After this prep, you can reapply the Labpox 30.
Labpox 30 is an excellent choice as a basement coating.
You have several color options, and lots of ways of bringing light, color and reflectivity into your basement space.
It’s important to make sure that if there’s moisture in the concrete slab, that you address that first. You can contact our tech support to give you advice on that.
However, if you’ve got the moisture under control, then Labpox 30 is an excellent choice for a basement coating.

Apply at a rate of between 80-200ft²/gal using notched squeegee and immediately backroll with a 3/8” nap roller. If desired recoat after 8 to 24 hours at 77oF. Clean equipment using solvent.

A slip-resistant finish can be achieved by adding CoverGrip Fine or medium to the topcoat at the time of mixing. CoverGrip should be added at a rate of 3.2 oz per gal.
